Anyone know where I could buy grass carp for a pond?

My buddy has a pond and it is overrun by weeds. Tons of bass but hard to fish. Looking to get some grass carp to plant. Any help? I am also going to check with DFG as well before fish are planted.

Grass carp are bad news....I would think of something else if I was you. We have a lake here in Oregon with them. Devils Lake was planted with them years ago and it ruined the lake. There is not a weed to be found and the fishing died to.

I am not positive about it, but believe they are illegal to import or plant in California. From what I read, etc you would not want them anyway. Put some koi or such in. Bill K

Hmm.. what else could we use to get rid of the weeds? No chemicals... It is basically a 12 ft deep weed pit you cannot run anything without snagging weeds.

You may want to try a golf course that has ponds. We have several courses here that utilize grass carp to control weed growth.

If you can find a large sickle blade, drag it dehind your boat about 3' down and cut pathways through the weed mats.
