I fish it on occasion. I live right around the corner
and yes there are some nice fish in there. Not
many people throw swimbaits. I usually throw
nothing but a 12" castaic. Followers can drive
you crazy but every once in a while they will
take. Sounds like you had a good day. More
times then not I go home skunked.

Re: Anyone fish Almaden Lake in San Jose
CJ,
Talk to Chad @ Fishermans Warehouse in San Jose. He fishes there on a regular basis and has cuaght a fish over 10lbs at that lake. Hard to believe but there are some big fish in there.

CJ,
I live a couple of miles away from Almaden and fish it frequently. 50/50 on getting skunked there for me. Caught an 11.2lb back in Jan 2005 on the southeast shore on a nightcrawler. Same month caught a 5lber on a rat-l-trap northeast corner. I hear the launch beach on the east shore is pretty good for senko's but I haven't caught anything there. I've tried almost every spot on that lake in the last two years, the best for me is the southeast shore (day and night) and either side of the Coleman Rd bridge with a jig. I just picked up a float tube so I am looking forward to hitting areas from the water instead of the shore. Give me a holler when you are available to go for a couple of hours.

Re: Anyone fish Almaden Lake in San Jose
Try the Triple Trout by 22nd century baits, some of those fish turned into dogs chasing sticks for me last year when they saw that bait for the first time. I was fishing there a couple times during the post spawn.
Wild Steelhead spawn just up the main creek that feeds the lake and there are also large chub minnows that live right at the mouth of that creek also. The bigger fish in that lake are absolutely swimbait style fish and are into big baits. Pretty much the reason why you don't see many caught there. You have to match the hatch!

Exactly..... The chub minnows can be caught in streams throughout the entire south San Jose area. Of course I have no idea if it was legal or not, but the minnows definately grow bigger than the Jumbo minnows fished up at Clear Lake. A buddy of mine used to set bait traps for the minnows, then fish them under a bobber at Almaden all the time. I would also recommend throwing a shallow running crankbait in the 3-4 foot zone like a Lucky Craft BD 3 or BD 4 or the 4" Mega Bait Charlie in white/shad or trout pattern if they are on that bite.
