Anybody want to go water skiing at Lake Conroe, TX?

Post by Ron C »

These photos were taken by a news helicopter flying over Lake Conroe, Texas, which is just north of Houston and south of Tyler. The alligator has a whole deer in its mouth! The gator was later found between Athens and Palestine, Texas near a house.

Anita and Charlie Rogers could hear the bellowing in the night. Their neighbors had been telling them that they had seen a mammoth alligator in the waterway that runs behind their houses, but they dismissed the stories as exaggerations. "I didn't believe it,â€

Funny , one of my supervisiors printed this & presented it in our safety meeting 6 months ago......... only the caption said it was from a lake somewhere in Florida....
I been to conroe, & believe this no gator that size could live on that lake because it is small over half the lake has homes on it.
Also. the last picturs is from lake Jackson, which is south of Houston, on the coast.

This reminds me of an incident we had here a few years back. It so happened that one our local Dairymen had stopped milking cows and took up the "Hobby" of raising and selling repitles(turtles, snakes and some big *** lizzards). On his land he had several stock ponds up to about 1/2 acre in size just full of Catfish and Bass which I fished from time to time with his permission, except for one pond that was fenced and well away from the others that Harold told me to stay away from. One day I got a call from this gentleman asking for my help, seems his truck had broken down in the small town in which I live. When I got to where this fellow was I noticed that the truck he was driving was loaded with dead chickens. I ask him what the hell are you doing with all those chickens, his reply was, that he was feeding them to some Moniter Lizzards at the ranch. Well, I got him going, and he went on his merry way. A few weeks later some reports of gator sighting started to trickle in from a small lake outside of Chowchilla (Brenda Reservior) just below where this fellow ranched. Well it seems that the pond that I never fished out of respect for my host was the home of at least 3 Gators, one which escaped the fencing and took up residence in the local swimmin' hole. There was gator hunt like no one in this country had ever seen and the reptile esacpee was shot after a week or two of escaping capture. If memory serves me correctly this animal was close to 10 feet and weighted 500 pounds. Before my friend passed away some years ago he told me that there were at least 20 gators in that pond and that he was feeding a ton of dead chickens a week along with what ever else he could get to them. After the escape the local and Federal Government got involved and did all kinds of crazy stuff to this guy but they could only ever account for the three gators they killed. Needless to say I don't do Brenda Reservoir any more!

Fun, HUH?????

Tyler is 100 miles or more from Conroe, & Athens is the same. Palastine is a little closer to conroe.
NO way that gator was vere in Conroe & then crawled 100 miles to Palastine.
I allo saw this on the net severalmonths ago as a lake in Florida, & the last pic is from Lake Jackson south of Houston......... & its not the same gator.
Wise men STILL seek Him....

...the first two photos are legit, but the third one is not. The gator in the first two photos was "only" 12 to 13 feet long. Here is the official press release (according to Snopes.com):

The photographs of this deer-eating alligator were taken from the air by Terri Jenkins, a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service District Fire Management Officer. She was preparing to ignite a prescribed fire at Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge, about 40 miles south of Savannah, Georgia, on March 4, 2004.

"One advantage of fire work is you get to see that 12-14 footers are common from Santee National Wildlife Refuge in South Carolina to Coastal South Carolina to Georgia’s coast," said Jenkins. "It looks like the alligator population is doing extremely well."

This one was at least 12-13 feet long. Jenkins said that some bull alligators have a 35 inch girth.

And now you know... the rest of the story. Good Day.

A 14 ft gator is x-large even in Florida a 23 footer ? (maybe) the monitor lizards mentioned earlier concern me they are no joke and grow over 8 feet are very much like Komoto Dragons they swim like champs and play havoc on local wildlife with a non discreet diet all hand fed beasts are the most dangerous as they do not fear humans and associate them with food while not usually a direct danger to humans we have them here locally, flora or fauna, exotics are a major problem as they have few or no predetors, the Everglades National Park now is inhabited by more than 150 king pythons
the best way to catch a big one is don't lose um sharp hooks set drag retie!
