Albino Largemouth

Post by nipples »

When I was fishing the 100% TOC at Melones, I caught a albino Largemouth that was about 10 inches in length. This was the first largemouth I have ever seen that was albino. Pink eyes, Translucent skin but with extremely faint lateral line markings, very pale white looking, but it was more like I was seeing the flesh of it.

I was in the middle of a tourney and didn't bother to take a pic... I just released it back into the water and let it swim away.

So I was just wondering how rare this is.... Anyone ever caught one of these albino bass? If so, how big was it and from which lake?

I would think most of these get eaten when they are young since they don't have a natural camo defense... It was definately odd to see one coming up on my line. Thought it was a white crappie at first.

I remember as a kid growing up in Milpitas, Ca there was an old tale of a group of albino humans that lived in the hills. We found this out when we were looking for a short-cut to Ed Levin park!! But of course, we never saw anybody like that!!!!

Legend has it that when the "White" (albino) bass appears we will enter a new era of peace and prosperity among anglers .
It is considered a sacred animal by native American peoples and bad luck would have befallen anyone who harms this bass .
Luckily for you since it was released alive the result was only that fishing was ruined for everyone fishing Melones for the entire weekend as punishment for catching the sacred bass .

Well , now you know............

There was also an orange bass caught in some lake in Canada a few years back, it was something like 2 or three pounds. Unfortunately the guy kept it and had it stuffed, should sent it to and aquarium for everyone to enjoy.

Come on Nipperz.......... Tell us how it really tasted.

All kidding aside---- I imagine that fish looked no different than G-Man.
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.
