Aerator/Livewell pumps

Post by LawDog »

I have a 2006 Champion 187. It has two pumps, one for the aerator which puts out bubbles into the live well and one that fills the wells. They both went out recently and I wanted to know if anyone has found any pumps better that the "Rule" brand. The pumps are called "Rule High Flow Aerater Pumps". It seems like the aerator pump only lasts about a year and I dont fish tournaments very often. The fill pump is a through hull pump and the aerator pump is completely contained inside the boat. Any suggestions would be appriciated.

Secondly, I was interested in possibly adding a "pump out" pump to the wells. I have a switch on the dash already to run one. My question is how is a pump out pump connected to the livewell system. Do I just add a "T" fitting to the drain hose or do I need to add another hose?

Thanks in advance for all your input....Scott Povio

Mayfair in my boat, she is 13 years old and I just replaced my first set of cartridges. PS check the screen on your live well and if you are fishing in Clear Lake where that alge is really bad, pull the cartridge and clean the motor, I am pretty sure that is how I burned my last one up. The nice thing about mayfair is that they are very common and you can purchase them in most boat shops or at the hook or other local stores.

When my bilge pump went out on me I learned a valuable lesson of leaving approx 8-10" of extra wire that I curled up an zip tied, this way I can interchange any of my cartridges if one goes out cause I would rather lose airation then my bilge! However my BassCat makes it VERY easy to access my pumps and cartridges.

I know that Gone Fishing Marine in Dixon has a fair price on them.
