I'm wondering what gear oil you all are using on your 2004 mercury optimax lower units. Also when changing do you replace anything else other than the oil? And how many hours can you go between oil changes?
Thanks

Never argue with an idiot; He'll beat you to death with stupidity.
I AM NOT SAYING THERE SHOULD BE CAPITAL PUNISHMENT FOR STUPIDITY,
BUT, WHY DON'T WE JUST TAKE THE SAFETY LABELS OFF OF EVERYTHING
AND LET THE PROBLEM SOLVE ITSELF?"

Mercury or Quicksilver (same lube) Change every 60 hrs or once a year. And every other service do a impeller change!
Re: 2004 optimax gear oil
There are two different lubes, Premium and High performance. They can be labeled Quicksilver or Mercury. You need the High Performance. I usually buy mine at wally world.

Re: 2004 optimax gear oil
So there is no difference at all between mercury and quicksilver? I should just stick to one?
Re: 2004 optimax gear oil
Quicksilver is a Mercury brand. They are exactly the same. It does not matter which is used. They both come in the premium and HP. You would need the HP in either label.

Quicksilver is the same product, just sold by non Mercury dealers.
