Yamamoto is one of the biggest names in bass fishing with many classic baits that have been catching fish everywhere they're thrown for decades. Baits like the Senko, Hula Grub, Ika, Shad Shape Worm, and Zako are just a few of their legendary lures.
Even with so many fish-catching baits on the market, they do not release as many new designs as other brands. Traditionally, they have stuck with the basics. With the recent purchase by GSM Outdoors, they have turned things up a notch, unveiling several new products at this year's ICAST show.
The Slinko
The Senko shape is proven and copied by just about everyone and the new Slinko takes the same basic profile as the original but with some twists to make it unique. The Slinko is a 5.5-inch bait with a ribbed body. This gives it a fantastic action as it moves through the water and will help it appear as natural as possible.
Another unique thing about the bait is that it features its Mega Floater Formula to keep the bait floating. This should make it deadly on techniques like the Carolina-Rig, shaky head, or Neko Rig, where having a bait rising off of the bottom will get more bites. The Slinko will come in 18 colors and is one of the great new baits from Yamamoto.
Bigger and Smaller Shad Shape Worms
The Shad Shape worm is a killer drop-shot bait. It has a perfect size and shape to imitate a small baitfish and is one of the best baits you can fish on the rig. New for this year are two new sizes. The original is a 4-inch bait and great for many situations. Now there is a 3 and 5-inch version with the same great profile as the original.
The 3-inch bait is great for finicky bass, pressured fisheries, clear water, and times when the fish are eating smaller baitfish. The larger 5-inch version will be excellent for bigger and more aggressive fish. The 5-inch version also features the Mega Floater Formula to give your bait even more action on a drop-shot rig.
A Smaller Zako
The Zako was designed as a ChatterBait trailer and it's perfect for it. It's an excellent match to vibrating jigs and adds a baitfish look to the popular baits. The original is a 4-inch bait, but now there is a 3-inch version as well.
The smaller profile will still fit standard vibrating jigs but will also pair much better with smaller baits. It also gives it a more compact profile when fished on the back of a ChatterBait. The great shape and profile also work well when fished on the back of a swim jig and the new size will also be an excellent fit for them.
7-inch Speed Senko
Fishing a swimming worm with a paddle tail is a Florida staple, but it works excellent anywhere the bass are around the grass. That's not the only place it works, but it's deadly around vegetation. New from Yamamoto is the Speed Senko, a 7-inch bait with a paddle at the end.
It has the same soft feel as the Senko with a paddle tail design that will kick as it's brought through the water. The big paddle has a slit in it for more movement and vibration and this bait should be excellent for those anglers who know the power of the swimming worm.
3-inch Ned Senko
Yamamoto leaked the new Ned Senko before ICAST and it had the bass fishing world buzzing. The Ned Rig is arguably the hottest finesse technique over the past several years and Yamamoto has created a dedicated bait for it. It's a take on the original 3-inch Senko, but with the addition of their Mega Floater Formula soft plastic. It has the same shape and profile as all of the Senko designs, but the added floating plastic is a huge difference maker in this style of soft plastic bait.
When fished on a Ned Rig, the Ned Senko will float and keep the bait in a perfectly vertical presentation to get more fish to bite. The original 3-inch Senko will still work on the rig, but the addition of floating plastic in the Ned Senko gives it a whole new look. It maintains the same softness and action that Senko fans love and will shimmy and move side-to-side, even when the jighead comes to a stop.
Yamamoto Baits has been re-energized with new owners. They released a bevy of new products for the year, expanding on popular products with new sizes and creating unique spins on their existing products. This is just the beginning with the new team and they plan to continue adding new items and enhancing the famed brand's presence.
