BETHEL ISLAND, Ca. - The 5th annual Yamamoto Big Bass Challenge held on the California Delta at Russo’s Marina, was a huge success as a total field of over 300 (including youth anglers) turned out to get their share of the over $35,000 dollars cash bounty that was awarded to those catching a single big bass during the 2-day event.
In spite of strong, gusty winds which prevailed on the first day - and prevented many anglers from making long runs, healthy largemouth bass in the 5 to 7 pound range were the norm for those who were successful in grabbing one of the thirty cash awards presented to the field on day one.
In spite of strong, gusty winds which prevailed on the first day - and prevented many anglers from making long runs, healthy largemouth bass in the 5 to 7 pound range were the norm for those who were successful in grabbing one of the thirty cash awards presented to the field on day one.
On the final day, warmer and less windy conditions prevailed which either triggered the bigger bass to bite, or allowed participants to run to better areas, as bigger fish came to the scales in the remaining hours. One difference that many noted in this event that stood out from previous Yamamoto Big Bass events, was that those using Yamamoto’s newest line of hard baits, such as the buzz, spinner, and top water plugs, did as well or better than those using the ever-popular “Senko” - Yamamoto’s flag ship bait.
It took quality fish like this to get into the event's Super-12!
When it was all over, Andrew Clemons caught the overall big fish of the event - a 8.34 pounder, which earned him the overall big fish trophy and a cool $2.500 dollars. In addition, Mike Coleman, left the event exactly $8,500 richer, as he successfully picked the right envelope in the dramatic “Super 12” draw.
Megan Lamy does it again!
Megan Lamy is looking for a "3-peat" and another bike in 2016!
Megan Lamy who competed in the youth division both this year and last, will be able to add yet another special edition “Yamamoto Flyer” moto-cross style bike (autographed by the Yamamoto's pro staff) to her collection as in this year’s event she won another special edition “Yamamoto Flyer” bike, this time however, by beating out 26 kids in the youth division with a 4.66 pound bass she caught on day one.
In addition to the bike, she also received a $170 first place check, and the youth division’s 1st place trophy.
Congratulations Megan!
Girl power!
Second place in the kids division went to Elizabeth Webber who’s 3.68 pounder earned her a 2nd place ribbon and check for $140, and 3rd place honors went to young Chloe Gomez who caught a 3.37 pound bass and received a third place ribbon and a check for $100!
Every youth that participated also enjoyed a FREE raffle and free lunch!
All we can say is…Yamamoto kid’s rock!
This was a great event, and on behalf of Yamamoto baits, we sincerely thank everyone for their support and participation as Anglers Press Outdoors looks forward to bringing it back to the California delta once again in 2016!
