COLUMBIA, S.C. – Keith Sharp of Fredericktown, Mo., was just an average angler that wanted to attend the Bassmaster Classic, but by the end of the Classic he had a shot to win $100K with the Berkley PowerBait Cast for Cash.
The Missouri native and avid angler was randomly selected from a packed BOK Center crowd to test his casting skills in the Berkley PowerBait Cast for Cash contest at the final weigh in of the Bassmaster Classic.
Sharp's first attempt fell just a bit short and was very close on his second attempt for $25,000. This attempt just missed the mark once again, but Sharp didn't go home without. For his effort Berkley awarded him with a $5,000 check.
"The Berkley PowerBait Cast for Cash was a great event. Each year, we happen to get anglers that really make us sweat," said Andrew Marks, Berkley Marketing Director. "Keith really had us excited during his practice session with Hank Parker. We had him casting backstage with the legendary angler, and he was doing a fine job."
Sharp chose an Abu Garcia Revo SX baitcast reel/Berkley E-Motion rod for his cast. Hank Parker, legendary Bass angler, was on hand to provide one-on-one assistance and casting tips, ensuring Keith had the best chance to win the cash prize.
"This type of thing never happens to me. I am always the guy that just happens to miss out on great opportunities like this," said Sharp. "I was thrilled to get casting lessons from a legend like Hank Parker. I was so excited that I completely forgot to get his autograph. I can't thank Berkley enough for making this event so special to me."
With the winnings, the semi-retired angler plans on getting a few upgrades in the fishing department and hitting the lake as soon as possible.
