  • Report: From AZGFD
SAGUARO LAKE – Lake level is 1,525 feet (92-percent full.)
Gary Senft, Bass Pro at the Mesa Bass Pro Shops, fished the lake Wednesday, Dec. 30, catching just one fish on a swimbait – but it was 9.75 pounds (right). His partner caught a 10.25-pound bass.

Anglers can do well for bass using rainbow swim baits. Yellow bass fishing tend to be good -- try using a silver and blue Kastmasters or similar. Saguaro will be stocked again the week of January 9 with rainbow trout. Try for rainbows in the Butcher Jones area. Saguaro was stocked with trout last week.

Also work the edges of the grass in 10 feet of water using dropshots for bucketmouths.

  • Report: From AZGFD
SAGUARO LAKE – Lake level is 1,524 feet (91-percent full.)

The bite tends to really take off when Salt River Project is doing a pump-back (releasing water and then pumping it back for hydroelectric power), which creates a current. At those times, there is a tremendous top-water bite.

Also work the edges of the grass in 10 feet of water using dropshots for bucketmouths.

Fish was slow today and the winds were up. Tried drop shot and no bites. Was able to hit this bass off a silver rattle trap on the edge of the weeds. 8 lbs 4 oz on the scale.

Looking for bass of the largemouth variety? Try Saguaro Lake. Night fishing has been excellent, and in the morning, bass are chasing bait. Try top-water lures and swimbaits in the mornings. As the morning progresses, throw dropshot-rigged Roboworms (morning dawn with a chartreuse tip and red crawler are good colors). Anglers can target humps, points, boulders, reef signs and grass bottoms. Of course, locate the food source (shad, for example) and you’ve found the fish.

    Saguaro Lake
Gene M.: My son and I fished Saguaro on Saturday Aug. 8 before sunrise. On my second cast I caught this 5-pounder and an hour later my son caught this 8-pounder. We both caught several 3.5-pound largemouth. We caught a total of seven largemouth all on frogs in the snags. It was a great morning of fishing with my son.

  • Report: Lake elevation is 1,525 feet (93-percent full). Largemouth bass fishing is good and some monsters are being landed recently – up to 10 pounds.

Keep an eye out for surface boils -- it's top-water time. Get on the water at first light, or fishing at night.

This is about to be a good time to load up on spawning bluegill.

Saguaro is also a quality channel catfish lake. Try stink baits, hot dogs, chicken livers and the like. Also try chumming with corn.

This is a good time to load up on spawning bluegill.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Fishing has been tough for every angler I spoke to in the last three weeks, bass are being caught on 4 inch drop shot with oxblood colored robo's. Cranks are not working and top water action has been nil. It's chilly in the morning prior to sunup but warms up nicely. Boat traffic is scarce. PLEASE...catch and return the fish to the lake, we can make a great fishery close to home if we all contribute our share. Thanks

Tips: Spoons are said to be working in fifty to sixty feet of water but the drop shot in twenty to thirty feet seems to be working the best.
