I knew it was going to be one of those days, when as in last week I left late. Made it to the taqueria and the cost went up $2.00. WTH? Stopped at the bank to drain my account to get a few Donkey Slayers , all kidding aside they're like a piece of jewelry. Can't wait.
Anyway the drive to Stockton was uneventful which is unusual. No hiccups is not good. Arriving at Ladd's Josh is there and in a different line. (Now let me tell you I'm beginning to think the fishermen are deliberately lining up like.....well lets just say etiquette is out the window. I need to be in the shade, it's about them. Some folks are arriving so early, but then leave space large enough for Evel Knievel to perform a record jump over, just so they're comfortable. Enough of the rant :) )
So I begin to load Josh's boat with the tackle bag (why do I bring 7 rods, a bag of tackle and wind up using only 1 rod and bait all evening? It baffles my imagination. So much so that while I'm loading Josh's boat with my rods, I walk over to another similarly colored boat with a big yamaha on the stern and begin to put my rods in that boat. I stare quizzically  wondering where my other stuff is when I see the name Skeeter and I hear Firuz in the background saying "Fast Eddie isn't with it today!" Truer words were never spoken.
Next, I see John and order the 4 Donkey Slayers. Since In Deep on the Delta's video dropped, John's been pretty busy. What he didn't say in the video, was that he also makes punch skirts in custom colors.......pretty much whatever you want.
It's now 2:30 and were off. Check in 8:30 make it 6 hours. Off we go to the first spot. By 3:45pm we have our limit. All they way to 5pm we have 12 1/2. (chatting with Phil and Aaron before take off, Phil mentions you'd better get you fish before 5:30) Well sun of a gun, the prophecy held true. We couldn't get the 1 or 2 more bites to be competitive. We went to spot number 2 and low and behold there were boats all over it. Ok time to experiment. Still nothing but small fish. Ok time is out , dump the fish and off to Ladd's.
Saw something interesting on the way back. A large ship was in the channel towing a tug. As we approached Ladd's there were 3 other tugs waiting. Thought it was pretty unusual.
So weigh in is proceeding. Chatted with Rob from the Basshole and he was telling me they had about 17 lbs. I thought that should be pretty good, check territory. Boy was I wrong.
It took 19.41 to cash a check (7 places) and non of the 7 had the big fish too. Goodman and Goodman had a 9.29, next Tony and Elatio with a 7lbr. A Big congratulations goes to John and Brayden for their back to back victories with 27.39. WOW! This donkey slayer appears to be the real deal. Next down was Phil and Aaron with 22.67 Dan and Vince with 21.48 Christian and Mark 20.62, and Juan and VJ with 19.57 with Richard and Gerry holding 6th with 19.49. What a night. Solid fish by everyone......except us
There's always next week. :D
