New to Northern California...Im finally here!!

Post by cull25 »

I just want to thank all the people on here who have helped me over the past month and a half in making my move to the Bay Area easier. Thanks for the advice and ideas.

The last few weeks have been very hectic in making a move across country from NJ to CA. But I have found a place to live and am now trying to link up with some people to do some fishing. I sold my boat a few months back, so I am out here boatless for the time being. I am in Walnut Creek now and hoping I can find some guys to link up with on here. I want see first hand what all the fuss is about with these BIG California bass.

If any of you can direct me to some local bass clubs, I would really appreciate it. I have been doing tounaments now for 10 years am a member of BASS and FLW. I have been fishing the Fed Nation Trail the last few years, so a club that is affiliated with one or both of these would be best.

Any help is appreciated.
Tight lines.

Welcome nutcase

Cherry Hill is a stones throw from Philly so its a bit different than those wannabe guideo clowns on TV. From one former East coaster (Philly) to another... welcome.

Guys to watch out for: Cooch, Tunaman, sTony, Hippie and a few others... 8) 8) 8)

Techniques to learn: dropshot, swimbaits, rippin, froggin

Jump right in on this site... the drama is always there. :D

Welcome. :D
Trust me, you dont have to worry about that!! I was a transplant there too. Grew up in Ohio, then moved to TN after college, Iowa after that, and Jersey was just the last stop. One thing Jersey was good for was preparing me to fish tidal waters. Delaware river( 6ft tide swing), The Upper Chesapeake, The Potomac. etc. Moving around is tough but it has its upside. I have been to some amazing fisheries and gotten to know some of them pretty well. I have bass fished in OH,KY,MI,IN,TN,MS,AL,FL,PA,NJ,NY,VA,DE,IA,IL,MO,KS,NE,MN,WI,..and from the sounds of it I am saving the best until now. CA.

Welcome from So Cal have a great selection of lakes to choose from and I suggest you try them all. If you get the chance to come south, I will be more then happy to show you our reservoirs. They are small compared to what you will get the chance to fish, but they do hold some pigs. DVL is a jewel and if you ever get the chance, you should do it.
Welcome and get ta fishing.

Welcome to northern Cal.

You didn't ask, but I'm sure you'll inquire soon enough. The tackle shops that specialize in bass tackle nearest to you include:

Outdoor Pro Shop in Oakland
Walton's Pond in San Leandro
Hook Line and Sinker in Oakley
Delta Outdoors in Oakley
Bass Pro Shop in Manteca
Fisherman's Warehouse in Manteca
Outdoor Sportsman in Stockton

A little further away include:
Mel Cottons Sporting Goods & Coyote Bait in San Jose
Hi's Tackle Box in South San Francisco

Fishing in Jersey, you probably had some great striper fishing. If you're into salt, there is a great cold water fishery off our coast too that you can explore.

Just don't expect the ocean striper fishing to be like the east coast. It's not even close! We have some good runs but they don't come in the numbers that you see back east. I live in Santa Cruz so if you ever need the scoop on fishing the salt in the bay area feel free to hit me up. Right now it's all about the white sea bass.

Cull,
Welcome to NorCal.

Take a look at the link "clubs" at the top of the page. Not sure if any clubs are literally in Walnut Creek, but there are a few Delta clubs, which are not too far away. there is also the Castro Valley Bass Classics club that is nearby Walton's Pond over in San Lorenzo/ Hayward area.

i belong to a club called the Bay Area Bassmasters, if your interested. Our club has members from all over the north; so we dont have a set location - we just show up and fish; meet online. PM me if your interested.

Good Luck,

Kopper

I moved from Oakland to Walnut Creek last summer and love it, as I'm sure you will. Welcome to the area.
