Bass Elbow?
Is there such a thing? I was out today and after throwing for a while I noticed some pain in my elbow. I throw sidearm because I can't cast overhead to save my butt. Maybe this has something to do with it.

Re: Bass Elbow?
You might want to get on of those tendon straps (for tendonits) that bowlers and golfers use....... and try that out.
Cooch is old and bowls..
....... ask him what he uses.

You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Well i happen to be an orthopedic consultant. It depends which side the tendonitis is to refer to it as tennis elbow or golfers elbow. tennis elbow or Lateral epicondylitis is on the outside of your elbow whereas golfers elbow is on the medial or inside portion of the elbow towards the body. Basser's elbow would probably be closer to lateral epicondilitis. If you underhand roll casted alot it could develop in the medial region.
I suggest using ice daily 20-30 mins after fishing for as many times as you can leave a 20 min off time so that your circulation can recover before icing again. There are many wrist hand and shoulder stretches which will also prevent your pain look for a website or PM me and i can let you know what to look for - Lancer

Re: Bass Elbow?
I have been going through this since last october. It 1st started showing on my left arm(tossing a spook too darn much).that finally went away and then about 2-3 months ago I developed it in my right arm(pitching jigs and the like).I have a arm band just under the elbow and that seems to help a little but getting a good hook set is very painful and a bit comical
It started feeling better and then yesterday I popped iot again moving some steel around (damn work!)
I sthere anything besides some time off the water that will help?I just can't seem to not fish

Re: Bass Elbow?
I has it really bad last year, along with both shoulders (rotater cuff). And is stupid as it sounds, I bought one of those Magnet bracelets at the ISE show back in January and now I have no pain! I'm not sure if they really work? Or if its all in my head, but I have no more pain.

Re: Bass Elbow?
follow Lancers' advice, ice, heat and stretching will relieve symptoms entirely if done daily. I have had it for 15 years. What most people don't realize is the problem is usually stemming from the lower arm, hand / wrist area. Do an internet search and you will find all different kinds of excercises/stretches that will help.

All you guys with fishing related problems whoud try monavie, I started it 3 months ago and honestly, it is awesome!

Sean,
no bashing here, if you get relief from something then it "works" and that is good. By the way I notice the PW Market on Vasco road sells the pure juice for about 1/4th the price, don't know if it will work the same for you or not.

Re: Bass Elbow?
Thanx much guys, especially Lancer. Did some surfing, found some exercises and the fact that ibuprofin will help with inflammation. That's good, cuz I already take it for my hernias. I got an Ace elbow strap also and will keep it on. I don't want this condition to get any worse. Guess I might need to work on my overhead casting cuz I can now see where sidearm puts more pressure on that part of the elbow.

Re: Bass Elbow?
that magnet thing made my wrist pain go away 2 years ago also. wore the thing till it looked and smelled like crap didn't take it off till it broke. no pain now don't know what made the pain go away. don't really care so long as it stays away. also you might want to try to build up muscle tone. try squeezing a ball of clay or something to that effect. finally, Barry Bonds might have some of that clear stuff he doesn't use any more you can get. sorry baseball is in my head.

Re: Bass Elbow?
one year while i was pre-fishing,I got on one hell of a rattle trap bite.so the day of the tournament i proceeded to trow the rattle trap all day.At the end of the day i ended up with two fish and a arm so sore that i couldn't even pick up my soda.I disregarded it until finally i bought one of those straps that go just below your elbow.I wore it for a couple months and haven't had any pain sense. My buddy got one of those bracelets and it seemed to work for him.So basically go get one of those straps or the bracelets and hope to hell you don't get on a rattle trap bite while pre-fishing.I've never casted so much in my life as i did that day!!!!good luck and i hope your arm feels better.
