POLL: Winter Nutcase Classic, A westernbass.com tradition!

Post by TomAtkeson »

Hey all, I'm taking a poll to see when the most of the members here would be willing and able to fish the Winter Nut Case Classic. I am thinking Berryessa is a great place. Not too terribly far from most areas in Northern California and I've found with the nice mix of smallies, largies and spots the place fishes pretty good even in the "dead of winter" and bass can be found on a mixture of techniques to suit just about anyone's taste.

The NCC is a tradition of westernbass.com members dating back to the days when this site was called NCBF. Guys have been braving the weather and cold for years now. The event is an awesome way to stick some winter fish, earn some bragging rights and have a good time fishing and eating with other members of the forum. It is one of the best ways for us to put faces to the names and maybe see some guys we don't often get to see. There has always been good food ranging from BBQ to Chilli and just about everything else you can imagine served up after the weigh in.

What I am trying to get at here is its a fun event and I'd encourage every member especially guys that have never been to one to come on out. Thanks for your time!

There is no entry fee that I have ever seen. More or less a turkey shoot for bragging rights and sometimes guys arrange for trophies to be made. Some guys have made up a big fish pot some years. This is more about getting together with the guys than making a buck :D

No entry fee, but we usually try to collect donations for a local charity or help out someone in the "community" in need :)

The Hook tournament is on 8 Jan plus I have a club tournament on 21 Jan. I too plan to fish Won Bass on 14 and 15 Jan along with fishing FLW on 26 to 28 Jan, both at Shasta. Add pre-fishing in and Jan is full.

4 Feb is looking real good.

Marty that sounds like you just got too much on your plate man! 8)

As a reminder to those with more than one day they think they can make it you can vote for up to three days. This will give us a good idea as to what days are best and have a fall back date if for some reason we can not make the original date. Thanks everyone keep the input and questions comming!

I have decided I will end the voting on Christmas day. The date with the most votes will be our day to fish. If due to bad weather etc I will use the next most popular date as a back up day. All those interested please send me a PM so I can start arranging who can bring what for pot luck and figure out the boater / non boater ratio. Thank you!

Tom,

In the past, I've put up a sign-up form that would email me the details, including boater/non-boat, potluck contributions, and contact information. I can do the same this time around, but right now I'm not sure we have enough interest to warrant the added effort.

We may want to find out if it is a timing issue, location issue, or just lack of exposure? The most votes we have currently is 7, so we certainly need to generate a whole lot more interest at this juncture.

You might be right. Thats why I was going to give it a couple more weeks. I have not gotten any word that the location is a bad choice, we all know berry fishes good in the winter and its fairly well located being around an hour from most places in the Bay Area and around the same for the Sacramento area. Timing just might be the issue with folks taking off work and traveling for the holidays some guys just might not want to pack up and go. There are tournaments in January but when isn't there something going on... maybe its because its still 3 weeks out at the least and guys just have not decided to commit to it yet. I have no idea as to how far out how many guys should be signed up. I know in the past when I fished it we had around 5 boats one or two years and still had a blast.

What do you think we should do at this point? This is my first time running one of these things and constructive criticism is good but what would you do at this point?

For those that have cast a vote how many of you would be interested in going to the Winter NCC even if the date chosen is not one of your preferred days? Just trying to get a feel as to how many people we potentially could have show up. The more people we get the more fun it will be I hope in the next week or so we can get a good number of guys to get interested and really do this thing right!

I'd also say anyone on the fence because they do not have enough information on the Winter NCC please feel free to ask any questions here or pm me. Thanks all!

Well looks like I am going to have to call this to an end. The most popular date only had 9 votes and despite my requests no one has emailed me to let me know what they would be interested in bringing for pot luck and status as a boater or non boater. So it looks like this one is sunk.

Yeah, tough crowd here at times.

Hope you had a great Christmas.

Due to an injury to one of our cats, we had to postpone our camping plans and stay home caring for an invalid. I was able to move our reservation, and Mona already had word she was going to be off for a few days next month, so we're booked to camp out at Berryessa from January 26th through the 29th. If anyone wants to get a small Nutcase together then, it is a date.

January 28th at Berry sounds like a plan to me.
I'll be coming as a boater and will bring snacks and beer.
And I'll be bringing a non-boater as well.

January 28th it is then - for anyone who can make it either make plans to camp out, get some friends together and rent a cabin, or just show up when the gate opens and we'll get the year kicked off right!

Tom - my back deck should be open, and true to the Nutcase events no one will be left at the dock regardless.

I'm going to start a new sticky thread for this, and link this previous post for reference.

Welcome to 2012 boys and girls - let's have some fun!
