Delta looses a 13.35 today.

Post by Johnny C »

Came across a guy on a pontoon boat today on the river who asked me if I had a scale because he had a fish he thought was 15 pounds. He pulled it out of a cooler and man it was huge. It weighed 13.35 on my cull-m-rite...He caught it on the main channel on a minnow with 6 lb. test..Picture in Photo section.

6lb test? from a pontoon boat?

Lucky that line didn't SNAP from the weight alone.

Awesome fish...love the big ol' buldging eyeball...

That is so sad. I know everyone has a "Right" but man that hurts. Does anyone else get that feeling of satisfaction and respect when they put that big ol girl back in the water and she swims away a little smarter. I think more people would CR if they could feel that. The problem is that when you have never caught a girl that big you dont have that feeling to look back on....try it sometime...it feels damn good.

I agree. I pulled a 9# out last week, my personal best, and called my wife to tell her and she said to bring it home to have it mounted. I couldnt do that. I had to let her go. Man I wish that guy would have let her go for someone else to catch and hopefully release.

I caught one out there a few weeks ago that looked bigger than that one. I had no camera and no scale and the only witness was the guy I was fishing with and a couple of construction workers that were working on the dock I got her under. It was by far the biggest bass I will ever catch. And I let him go. But even though my wife even thinks im full of B.S. about that fish, I am glad I let her go.

Nice fish!
The smaller the fish the better it tastes and the better for you. Most that size 13+ go on the wall I think. Many of us were there at one time, (wanting one on the wall). C&R was not at big a thing not long ago. It was only like 40 some years ago when they would kill every fish in a bass tourney. I sure am glad that did not last long for all of us. The fishing has been much better for numbers and size over all at most lakes. I would be Broke if I mounted everything over 10 lbs. For those of you using big baits to try and get a good one just remember that a 10 lb fish is not all that. Don't get me wrong it is a nice fish but just to common when fishing for big ones. It is the teens that are tough to get. I am with you all the way Jared. I would like to add that when I have caught a 13+ and set her free, I hope she puts the same smile on another's face just like she did mine. I had to just about pull teeth on a friend of mine. When he caught a 13 he said "on the wall." I said in the water. He said no way. I said the bass Gods would look down on you and you would never get another one like it. (she went free) I know he still hates me for that and I know if he gets one like that again he would keep it if I am not there. It does feel better when you know you are doing your part. I think if I ever hunted I would have to use darts LOL! so I could let them go free also. If you want to eat fish, we have stores for food. It costs much less to buy the fish to eat then to pay 70 to 100 bucks and go to a lake to catch them for food. LOL!! I think most look at the fish they have on the wall years later and say ...Man....I wish I set her free. I know I did.
Long John Silvers anyone?
EVERY fish on my gallery went free.

Hey BassinDon -
Same here.. I always said.. I wanted to go hunting with paintball guns! Now that would be a kick in the pants.

Ever fish a lake and see dear right on the water just cruising around eating and being playfull.. That;s an awesome sight. I have been 10 feet from a deer while I was on my boat. Such beautiful animals..... don't get me wrong... I understand people shooting them and eating them. I just don't have to! Luckily, turkeys, pigs and cows are ugly (I love a good steak, baby back ribs or a turkey sandwich) ---- so I will just stick to that and leave the venison, duck, dove and the rest for others to eat! :)

Me either... just .39 away from a teen fish.. but, still not a teen fish!

Maybe sometime soon - if I can get BassinDon or Supermat to show me how to do it!

Luckily, they are hard to catch so your typical meat fisherman isn't going to stick to many of them! The big girls are picky and smart (that's how they got to be so big) and that is also why not many of them see the frying pan... Typically it takes a pretty skilled angler to get one to eat a bait and then to get it in the boat which is good news for us. The skilled angler are the ones who understand the importance of releasing the fish. So we've got that going for us too!

During the spawn is another story!

Good point Tom. I guess it is always the 6lb line live bait guy or the power bait for trout guy that gets the teeners  The guys with 25lb line and 8oz baits have a harder time getting to stay buttoned. What is that? I had the privalage to release a 13.7lber this year and I even got it on video. My 6 year old son was there and asked why I let her go. I explained why and he said he wanted to do the same thing when he gets to catch a fish...just like dad. That was better than the release and catch... :D

After the fight on 6 lb. test in 84 degree water the guy said the fish was pretty shot. He did say he felt bad he killed it...It was a brute. made my couple of sixes look darn small.

Yes he was in the deep water channel near Tinsley Island Dan...It was probably a great day for him...Come on guys there are lots of fish..I just watched Steve Kenedy loose 250K because he had a dead fish. Do we cap on him?..No it was an accident?..WE HAVE ALL killed some some bass. I know Delta flippers have all blinded many fish..Please just enjoy the big fish and be thankfull for all the giants we have in NorCal!!!!!!

It’s up to the angler to determine what he wants to do with his catch. I am not judging him, just wonder why there is no outcry from team catch and release and why others are sugar coating this harvest. Let’s see

Live Bait
Pontoon Boat
Fish Cooler

It is what it is
