software update

Post by mark poulson »

Ken,
I went to the Lowrance site, and tried to download the 4.1 software to my computer, but when I tried to open it I got a "unable to read this type of file" message.
Will you be at this year's BAT?
If so, will you be able to update my HDS 5 software for me, if I bring my unit with me?

Yes, I will be at the Bass A Thon this November and yes I will be able to update any of the HDS units. Just bring them by the booth at Anglers Marine.

Mark, if you don't want to wait until November to update, try this:

First of all, I am assuming you have an HDS Gen 1 since you are trying to download 4.1. Otherwise you would need to download a different software (like 3.0 for Gen2 or Gen2 Touch).

When you download the file from the website, it will be a zip file (compressed). Once downloaded you need to double click on the zip file to extract the files. So do this:

Unzip the .zip file and copy only the Sims folder, update.conf, and
HDS-4.1.36.68.upd file to your SD/MMC card.

(HDS 4.1 is a 199 MB file and will take a while to download. Please be patient.
Follow the onscreen instructions to transfer the HDS 4.1 software files to your SD/MMC card).

To see if you did this properly, look at the files on your SD card and make sure the .upd file is there (this is the file your HDS must see after you turn on your Gen1 after first loading the SD Card with the .upd file on it).

If the file ending in .upd is not on the card, your HDS will not recognize the card and update the unit. Hope this helps.

Marc,
You actually made me smile.
I am so computer-dumb I couldn't unzip my fly!
But I have a 19 year old daughter who is back home from school, so I'll get her to help.
Thanks.
