Re: Chatter bait help
I use a Powell 735MH with 50 lb or 65 lb Power Pro. I tie directly to the chatter bait. My favorite trailer is a Yamamoto 4 inch Kut Tail worm. I found a guy on eBay several years ago that custom made "chatter jigs" and had him make me about 100 of them in a variety of colors and sizes. Th...

Re: frog fishing: braid question
I tie my frog directly to the braid because you are usually throwing them over/in dense weeds. Once a fish grabs it, it will take the frog down into the weeds and you'll have to pull the fish out of the weeds. 50 or 65 lb braid will cut the weeds and will typically not break. There's a good chance t...

Both areas will have a ton of weekend boaters. It's hard to find a spot in Berryessa where you won't be constantly bothered by them. I would take them to the Delta since there is a lot more places to hide from skiers and jet skis and enjoy your fishing.

Definitely would not launch at Paradise Point. There's a lot of boat traffic that use the launch ramp, both fishermen and skiers/wakeboarders. I launched there last week in the morning and was pulling out around 3pm. Counted at least 6 or 7 boats that were launching by the time I pulled out.

I had given up ever seeing another copy of Bass West. I wrote off the cost of my subscription as if I lost a couple of lures fishing.
I was surprised to see the magazine in my mailbox. Great reading.

Re: Delta help
About the only way to fish the Disappointment Slough weedbeds without getting weeds on your lure is to fish that area at high tide. I fish a chatterbait, buzzbait, or horny toad over the top of the weeds. You can fish a spinnerbait or speed trap along the edges of the weedbeds.

Fish those three sloughs alot. Of the three, I fish Sycamore and Hog the most. This time of the year, the weeds aren't that bad. At high tide, you can toss a topwater, chatterbait or spinnerbait over the top of the weeds that tend to line the shoreline. Also, crank a speed trap along the outside edg...

Re: 14 pound mono?
You will be putting a lot of tension on the knot area of the line when you are tossing a 2 oz swimbait. If you stick with 14 lb mono, I guarantee that you'll probably snap off the lure after throwing it a few times or snag it somewhere and break off the line. In my opinion, if you are throwing a 2 o...

Everyone will have their own recommendations for the line to use when fishing the delta. My cousins and I prefer with fish with 50 lb or 65 lb braid all the time. My regular fishing partner prefers fluorocarbon around 17 lbs and hates braid. I wouldn't go with anything less than 17-18 lbs because th...

Re: Black Dog Baits Fake Fish/Stripers
Fishing the Fake Fish will take some more practice to get it right. Had a tendency to fish it too fast. When I fished it too fast, it came to the surface and acted like an injured baitfish. If there were stripers in the area, they would have killed the Fake Fish. It was fun to play with the Fake Fis...

Re: Where's the Delta cheese?
"Cheese" are basically algae mats that grow near or on the surface of the water in areas where there is minimal water movement and the depth is fairly shallow. Usually directly under the algae/"cheese" are weeds that are growing just under the surface of the water.

I love fishing those sloughs in the fall/winter months (Nov/Feb) when the water temp starts to drop and the water temp is in the 50's or lower.
