Two Minute Tips: Wagtail in the Spring

On the heels of the recent release of the Wagtail Swimbait, ABT Lures offers some tips for springtime success.

RATE OF FALL

The Wagtail features two rates of fall - a slow and fast sink. During pre spawn, while the fish are waiting to move up, choose the faster sink; but as the water temp rises, move to the slow sink.

MODIFICATION FOR DEPTHS

The swimbait's three-hook option that is fully-rigged, out of the package with a head hook, bottom hook and tail hook. When fishing below the surface, it can be run with all three hooks. When targeting depths lower in the water column, the bottom hook can be removed, leaving the head hook and the tail hook.

LINE SELEECTION

This is a 5-oz bait; therefore a minimum of 20-lb-test is suggested. It could be thrown with fluoro or mono. The ABT recommendation is 20-lb fluorocarbon.

FEATURES
The Wagtail is an 8.5 inch hard swimbait with soft plast fins and a rubber, top hook insert, multi-hook option to help get sort strikers in the boat. Currently available in two rates of fall and five colors.
