Bass Tackle Depot .com Fishing Team Continues Assault

James Niggemeyer Once Again Leads the Way with Elite Performance

Oroville, Calif. - As the 2009 season progresses, the Bass Tackle Depot .com fishing team continues to post outstanding results.

Taking the lead in the latest results was Bassmaster Elite Series pro James Niggemeyer from Van, Tex. The third year Elite Series competitor, who won the first BASS Central Open at Toledo Bend in March, continued his impressive fishing with a 7th place finish at the Bassmaster Elite Series Blue Ridge Brawl at Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia.

Niggemeyer used a combination of techniques that included throwing a Strike King Pure Poison vibrating jig, a swimbait and sightfishing to sack 54 pounds, 3 ounces; his catch included the big bass for the tournament, a 7-pound, 2-ounce largemouth that he caught while sightfishing.

"I used a variety of baits while targeting spawning fish," said Niggemeyer. "However Strike King's Rage Tail Lizard produced my bigger fish; including the big bass." The veteran pro used a St. Croix Slop and Frog rod and Ardent XS1000 baitcaster for his sightfishing approach.

His performance resulted in his third trip to the Elite Series payroll window this season; it was also Niggemeyer's third top 15 finish of the season. He currently stands in 12th place in the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year Points Standings.

While Niggemeyer has been tearing up the Elite Series schedule, Bass Tackle Depot .com pro Matt Newman, of Agoura Hills, Calif. has been standing tall atop the FLW Stren Series Western Division ranks. After two events in the 2009 season, Newman stands in 6th place in the Stren Series Western Division standings following a 33rd place finish at Lake Roosevelt.

Newman used a flipping pattern around Roosevelt's plentiful wood cover to catch the majority of his weight. He used his Shimano Crucial flipping stick armed with a Curado 200 reel and tied a Green Pumpkin Neon Roboworm Sour Puss on 20-pound Izorline. He also used a 5/16-ounce Tru-Tungsten Bullet weight and Youvella Finesse Flipping hook to drive the bait between the branches of the trees.

Other Bass Tackle Depot pros that are picking up with the theme of team domination are 2008 U.S. Open Champion, Justin Kerr of Simi Valley, Calif. Kerr also fished the Lake Roosevelt tournament, where he finished 5th.

Chad Martin from Plumas Lake, Calif. also continues to produce. Following the Roosevelt event, Martin stands in 9th place in the Stren Series points in hopes of earning his second trip to the Stren Series Championship.

Not to be outdone by their pro counterparts, the Chico State team of Matt Dixon and Spencer Moran claimed victory in the second FLW College Fishing match of the season. The pair produced a 15-pound, 0-ounce limit from the waters of Lake Roosevelt to run away with the event. The pair used spinnerbaits and Yamamoto Senkos to catch their fish. The Senko produced a beautiful 7-pound lunker for the Chico State fishing team, which was the largest for the event.

All told, the Bass Tackle Depot .com fishing team has earned more than $132,000 with most of the respective schedules only halfway to completion. Congratulations to all of our fine anglers from the staff at Bass Tackle Depot .comÂ… Where the Pros Shop!
