Patagonia

Patagonia Lake is at an elevation of 3,760 feet in Patagonia Lake State Park.

The lake has 260 surface acres. Patagonia lake is maintained and owned by Arizona State Parks.

The lake was created by damming up Sonoita Creek and is 2.5 miles long and is tucked into the rolling grasslands of Sonoita Valley..

Largemouth bass are available to the angler. Other species found in the lake are channel catfish, crappie or bluegill.

Patagonia Lake State Park has a high elevation of 4000 feet and as such should not experience the harsh desert climate of low elevation sites. However, during the summer months visitors can still expect very hot temperatures with afternoon thunderstorms possible especially in July and August. Daytime high temperatures can exceed 95 degrees. Winter brings moderate temperatures to the low elevations, with cool days and cool to cold nights. Winter is a good time to experience these normally snow free areas. Fall and spring are transitional periods and can also be nice times to visit these desert regions. Be prepared for cool temperatures at higher elevations and dress in layers for your travels in this state of varying climates.

Patagonia Lake State Park is located in southeast Arizona, not far from the Mexican border. Entry to the park is from State Highway 82 between Patagonia and Nogales.

Tips: Make sure to throw your buzz bait as close as you can to the bank. Flip the rocks with a crawfish type bait.

Report: Fished from 2p to dark, about 6p. I fished top watter popper, brown w/ white belly and white glitter tail, that produced 3 strikes, one of them producing a three pounder that was released. all strikes where in 6-8 foot of weedy water backed up to cat tails. My fishin' bud jigged purple worm in 10 feet for a couple hours but switched to top water.

Tips: find the weeds.
